For want of good soil…

Ideas can't be owned,
only planted.

Hello Ideas began in 2009 for the Living Cinema project. By 2014 it tracked Netribution's various research projects, under this statement:

"It only happens once in a society's life - that we all become networked...

Networked to each other, networked to the sum of recorded human knowledge and information, networked to an ever-growing archive of the past and a unimaginable amount of computer power.

We'll finish this period of history with either a few companies controlling most of the network - who would have more power than any nation in history - or with a transformed and upgraded society. One that's flatter, fairer, harder to corrupt and more open.

Helloldeas is a new consultancy, in beta, and one of millions of nodes on this network hoping and working for the second outcome."

The odds of "a few companies controlling most of the network" seems higher than ever, but (now out of beta) we remain hopeful and active, planting and looking after ideas.

A seed framework

The only thing we have control over is when and how to share an idea.

Once an idea is shared it begins growing and evolving in the minds of anyone who gets it. How can this be owned? The only thing we have control over is when to share an idea, and the onews we're cultivating.

Then, if it starts to grow, there's some control over what's public and what's not, or to continue our metaphor: what's trunk, branch and leaves, and what's underground, what's roots.

We're exploring a Seed Framework to develop ideas better over four distinct stages:

  • A petri dish is a usually private collaboration to develop the first whisper of an idea into a nucleus and seed…
  • Seeds are the publicly shareable first stage of an idea: be it business plan, green paper, screenplay or slidedeck, it's looking to be planted…
  • Saplings are ideas that have taken root and started to grow, requiring focussed nurture and care.
  • Trees are developed ideas that can sustain themselves through their own ecosystem / community.
